Assessment Workshop Strengthens Faculty Capacity in Blueprinting and Item Writing

The College of Medicine, in collaboration with the Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB), organized a two-day workshop on Assessment on 8–9 September 2026. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Abdullah Al Battashi and Dr. Khamis Al Alawi.

The first day focused on assessment blueprinting, with comprehensive discussion of its principles and application in ensuring appropriate alignment between curriculum objectives, competencies, and assessment. The second day was dedicated to item writing, addressing key principles and practices in developing high-quality assessment items.

The workshop was highly interactive, with the OMSB experts and College of Medicine faculty engaging actively in discussions, exchanging perspectives, and addressing practical issues related to assessment. The enthusiasm and level of faculty engagement were particularly appreciated by the visiting OMSB experts and contributed to a productive atmosphere of shared learning.

The workshop represents another important step in strengthening the College’s faculty capacity and assessment practices, while further developing its academic collaboration with OMSB as the College continues to establish its medical education program.
